The Shining: The Book That’ll Make You Cancel That Hotel Booking

I never thought a book could scare me like this. The Shining didn’t need jump scares—the real horror crept in through the silence of my room late at night.

The Shining book review

The Shining is my first Stephen King book—and my first real entry into the horror genre in general. And I have to say, the title “King of Horror” is well deserved.

When I first picked up this book, I honestly wondered, “How can a book even be scary? There are no jump scares, and it’s all just words on a page.” But man, the horror wasn’t on the page—it was inside my mind.

This book is surprisingly easy to read, and it feels quite personal. From about halfway through, it mainly focuses on just three characters, all staying in the Overlook Hotel (yes, the creepy one), which makes everything feel much more intimate—and tense.

Apparently, The Shining is part of a larger series by Stephen King. If (and when) I eventually get around to reading the other books, I’ll be sure to update this blog entry.

My experience reading the book.

I completed this book in around 2 weeks, and It was really intense, also mostly I read this book late at night in my room alone, so every single sound outside my room made me jump.

But I definitely recommend this book, if you are looking for something horror to read, and watching horror movies is way too mainstream for you.

In conclusion

There is also a movie adaption, if you just want to enjoy the movie, but prevalent opinion online is that books are better. The Shining Movie
